let’s talk about this please
Sousuke keeps referring to dreams and dreaming, something that we have seen Rin do so many times before and something that has been addressed in today’s episode multiple times, but the preview for next week shows us something completely new.
what the preview is about is not achieving dreams but recognising dreams as what they are - not real. whether they are not real at the moment or never will be real.
now why is this so fucking heartbreaking for Sousuke? this boy has the talent to achieve his dreams and he was so close to it too - he got scouted long before everyone else did. he was literally a step away from his childhood dream and it was all ripped away from him by something that striving to achieve his dreams probably caused.
"I wish I could continue dreaming the dreams I had back then". Sousuke would rather live in the oblivion of hoping and dreaming and not knowing than be where he is now - completely torn apart.
but what really struck me in this preview is Rin telling Sousuke to wake up. Rin, who is constantly dreaming and aiming high and hoping and pushing himself to achievement, who has gone through his father’s dream and has finally found his own, a person who is obsessed with achieving his dreams, is telling his friend to wake up. he is telling Sousuke that his health and his well being are more important than any dream. he is showing that all along it was all For the team and for his friends. he is showing Sousuke that they don’t have to swim a relay together to have a bond or to matter as a pair. Sousuke translates to more than a fellow swimmer or teammate, he is more important than a dream because a dream will always be nothing more than a dream, what reality brings is something completely different.
yknow, i’ve seen a lot of posts analyzing haru’s nightmare and rin and haru’s fight from last episode, but im honestly shocked at the lack of attention this scene has.
we’ve been seeing all season that makoto is struggling with what he wants to do when he gets out of high school. he probably never thought he’d be able to make it to the big leagues because his talent wasn’t up there with haru and rin’s. he’s jealous of rin because he could never ignite that spark in haru that rin can when they swim. haru is constantly being targeted by scouts. makoto probably feels like he’s being left behind.
but right here. this is the first time makoto is being told that his talent is worth something. even if he has decided on what he wants to do after graduation (i.e., studying in tokyo, working at the iwatobi swim club, etc.), this is the only time makoto has heard he has the potential to keep swimming. and it’s not from his best friend or his teammates or his teachers - it’s from rin.
obviously rin’s goal is to swim professionally and make it to the olympics. but up to this point makoto had assumed he was only interested in whether or not haru was taking his future into consideration. rin is also worried about makoto. not many people remember that makoto and rin are very close friends because they don’t have the same bond with each other that they both have with haru. but all season rin has been worrying about them both and rin wants them both to consider swimming professionally, not just for their future’s sake, but so he can continue swimming with his friends.
Emphasis added. At the cherry blossom pool, Rin did ask both Haru and Makoto what their plans were for the future, after all.
i cant believe this
why does this have 32k notes? it’s just a picture of a knife in a ranch bottle, is there some unspoken joke that 32 thousand people share? what is going on here, i dont get it. it’s just a fucking picture of a knife in a ranch bottle. is there some spiritual connection people have to this picture? is there some ominous and mystical reasoning that this has 32 thousand notes? do people reblog this because it makes them look like some indie blogger? or is there just something funny to this? someone please explain
no one tell him
